Palettenbox in 0 scale

I had these  palettenbox nr 4301011 in 0scale from www.zapf-model.de laying around for ages and almost forgot about them. But on a rainy day I took time to assemble one. These palletboxes are simple lasercut cardboard kit but fun to build and to weather.

The base coat is a mixture of Vallejo ModelColorsto get the grey/green base coat (I forgot about which one I did use) and the weathering isn't finished yet but it's start to look like it.

After that I placed it into one of my 0-scale wagons leaving it at just one palletbox.

But there where still 3 left in the package. so on a day off I took time to assemble them.

After letting them dry for a night, I based coated them with Tamiya XF-63 German Grey. This paint very liquid and dries quickly.

The result of the base coat. Yes it looks very dark but we are going to work on hat.

To make it look more realistic I made a mix of 50/50 Vallejo ModelColor 70.886 (Green Grey) and Vallejo ModelColor 70.889 (Olive Brown) to get a greenish color which looks like old industrial grey/green paint. Normally this color would have a slightly metallic shine and you would use a metallic color in it, but because we aren't making new pallet boxes, it's not a problem.

Then I made a mix of Vallejo ModelAir 71.032 (Golden brown), Vallejo ModelAir 71.129 (Light rust) andVallejo ModelColor-Panzer Series 70.983 (Flat Earth) to get a dirt color which I applied by dry brushing.

All three separate steps next to each other (the pallet box on the right all ready got some additional weathering).

Now some more weathering details. For that I used Vallejo ModelAir 71.129 (Light rust) to add some (dry) rough rust details. After that I applied Vallejo ModelWash 76.505 (Light Rust) with a 5/0 brush on various spots to make rust spots and rust deposit by water/weather. Then I added a thin wash of Vallejo ModelWash 76.514 (Dark Brown) on the bottom of the palletbox and some markings on the base to look like dirt deposits by water/weather.

And all four are done. They all look a different because age of the palletboxes may vary just the usage.

Not it's time to make some materials to put in them.
